Campaign Signs

Campaign Signs

Campaign Sign Information
In state and federal election years, Minnesota Statute 211B.045 governs the placement of campaign signs from 46 days before the primary until 10 days after the general election. For 2024, this time period is from June 28, 2024 to November 15, 2024. This statute allows campaign signs to be posted in any size and number, subject to some limitations found in Minn Stat Chapter 211B on the content of signs and where they can be placed. Municipal sign ordinances cannot regulate the size or number of noncommercial signs during this time period, but still apply to placement on public property.

Reporting Violations
Campaign signs are not permitted on public property and public rights-of-way. When City staff receive a complaint, they will investigate and remove the sign if it is improperly located. The sign will be stored for a short period of time so it can be claimed by owners.  If unclaimed, the City will dispose of it.

More information can be found in the table below about specific concerns relating to campaign signs, including what provisions regulate certain topics and who to contact about complaints.
